The Buffalo Bills look pretty sexy right now, once again proving they are a close unit and able to put on a show. The Houston Texans on the other hand, are a real rag tag bunch. It’s an ugly one this week, as the Bills will attempt to keep clean down in the deep south. Let’s take a break after a productive HUMP DAY and look at what we’re dealing with this Sunday in the #HUMPDAYCHECKDOWN.
No Rod, No Staff
The Texans have a tongue crunching Head Coach who will gnaw on his tongue. HC David Culley was brought in by newly hired Nick Caserio as trade talks for former starting QB Desaun Watson had already begun, pre allegations. It can be assumed that way back then, the hire was desired to please the now CLEARLY UNSATIFYABLE Watson, but the decision had been made and the Texans were forced to move forward with Culley calling the shots.
He’s a lifetime coach with years of dedication and football experience that far exceeds the brash youthful faces on most of NFL sidelines. He chews on his tongue. It’s an odd thing to see, it’s certainly uncomfortable and borderline nauseating to look at. We’ll see how many times CBS cuts to Cully chewing on his cud.
Tyrod Taylor, the infamous and unlucky wonder that not only graced the greens of Orchard Park, but as many forgot dons a shiny Super Bowl ring from his time in Baltimore was slotted to carry the water for the tried Texans roster. The job no one would want, went to a man who has proven he can do SOMETHING, just about ANYWHERE. The roster is meager at best, as superstars JJ Watt and DeAndre Hopkins high tailed it out west, as soon as they caught wind of the Outlaw (Sexual Predator) Watson’s misgivings.
I was very much so looking forward to seeing both Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tyrod (Tryrod) Taylor to get a chance to upset their hot ex-GF Buffalo Bills.
We won’t get to see Rod try to scorch us with his legs or sexy melting deep ball.
Book of Davis
Davis Mills was destined to be an NFL QB. He was the Rivals, Scout & 247Sports Top QB prospect coming out of high school, but a string of knee injuries kept him as a backup through his junior year at Stanford. CJ Costello went down with an injury, which allowed Mills an opportunity which he took, and played fairly well. Costello would go on to play at Mississippi State. Davis Mills has a very long neck. What happens if Davis Mills gets hurt?
Blood Thirsty
The Bills defense is absolutely blood thirsty and this has all the makings of a blood letting. Big Ben, Tua (rip), Brissett & Heinicke all struggled to find much opening in the Bills defense. The defensive line has rotated each game throughout, allowing for fresh legs, in addition to the LB corps. Matt Milano has been EVERYWHERE, and Tremaine Edmunds seems to be aging nicely. The backend is the real bloodthirst though. Hyde, Poyer, White, Levi & Taron Johnson have flourished under DC Leslie Frasier. They only seem to continue to get closer and more in tandem as a unit.
WEIRD WEDNESDAY FLASHBACK
Real Bills fans remember when JP lit up Houston
Lee Evans went the frig off. 11 catches for 265 Yards. Eric Moulds was the Texans #2 WR behind Andre Johnson. David Carr spinning for the Texans.
Hard Hats On
Despite the fact that I don’t believe that Josh Allen didn’t know we were playing the Chiefs next week, this is certainly what many call the infamous “trap game.” Looking past the Texans without the dynamic Tyrod Taylor is certainly easy, and we should win. Vegas has odds around 17 for the Bills last time I heard. What I am most concerned with is getting in and out of games of this nature not only with a win, but a healthy win. One thing I have always observed, and I have mentioned on the pod, is that great teams, truly great dynasty-type teams of established winning culture, always seem to know how to navigate ugly ones like this. From a strategic standpoint, truly great teams can win games like this easily, but also plan on rotating in guys to get reps, and guys who need to stay healthy-OUT. I hope this is an early day for the top stars.
Warm Up Mitch, this one’s on You.
